Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a public speech writer. She founded Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on portrayals of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the founder and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit website that explores representations of women within popular media narratives. Committed to destroying the stereotypes that are associated with women in pop culture, she also works with issues that relate to the harassing women targeted by the media and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social theological, philosophical and political thought. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from the age of 7, she started her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the University. The site was created by a woman in her early 20s with a dream to develop a series of web videos which would explore gender representations in games. But, she was the target of cyber-bullying. The attack wasn't enough to stop her. Instead, it increased her importance to being a feminist and a media critique. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women within pop culture and the narratives that surround them.
